After exhibiting at El Thyssen in Madrid, the work of the popular Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte finally arrives in Barcelona.
“Since my first exhibition, in 1926, I have painted 1,000 paintings, but conceived only 100 images. these thousand paintings exist because I have painted variants of my images; it is my way to better understand the mystery, to possess it”. René Magritte
Although it arrives with a one-year delay due to the pandemic and after exhibiting in Madrid, the retrospective of the Belgian genius The Magritte machine will soon arrive in Barcelona, where it will be seen at CaixaForum from February 24 to June 5, 2022.
On this occasion, 95 paintings will be exhibited, all of them from public and private collections around the world, achieved with the support of the Magritte Foundation plus an installation with photographs and home movies taken by the artist himself.
Finally, after a long wait and for only 6 euros (except free entrance for CaixaBank customers and under 16s), René Magritte lovers will finally be able to enjoy in Barcelona a retrospective dedicated to the Belgian surrealist painter who explores his surprising and attractive work, characterized by playing with visual logic and questioning our perceptual categories.
And as Magritte himself defended to the death: “There are no answers here. Just questions”, thus he became the best narrator of everyday absurdity and the mysteries of words.
